
Nehama's ability to communicate with children is well known andperformances
at the Victorian Arts Centre for ARTS ED in which Nehama conducts a Symphony
orchestra and introduces children to the delights of music making with
orchestral instruments have been an institution for 15 years. As well
she has been a presenter with all the major orchestras in Australia .
As a concerto soloist Nehama has performed with all the major Australian
orchestras as well as in Germany with the Hamburg SO, Brazil ad Hawaii
. Recently she performed Pulenc's Two Piano Concerto and also Beethoven's
Piano Concert No. 3 in C minor with the Melbourne Sinfonia.
She has composed music for ballets including "Arena" for
the Australian Ballet Company - a natural outcome from her many years
as a modern ballet dancer with led to teaching movement to both musicians
and non-musicians. Nehama's ability to improvise for dance enabled
her to be a dance accompanist, in particular for the Australian Ballet
School and Company and visiting dance teachers in particular those
specializing in Martha Graham and Jose Limon techniques.
Nehama has recorded with many artists including clarinetist/saxaphonist
Peter Clinch, Anthony Warlow and jazz musician Brian Brown. As well
her piano playing was featured in the TV mini series "Return to Eden " and
several other documentaries and films including Paul Cox's "My First
Wife". She was also the pianist in the film about the life story
of Shirley Temple which was filmed in Australia . Recently she narrated "Peter
and the Wolf" with orchestra.
Nehama worked for many years in both radio and television and in fact
was "Playschool's" first presenter. For ABC radio, she scripted
and presented schools' programs. Three documentaries have been shown
on TV featuring in particular her holistic approach in music education.
Nehama serves on a number of committees including Malcolm Sargent Cancer
Fund for Children, Victorian Music Teachers' Association, Foundation
for Youth Excellence, and as a Rotarian organises the weekly speakers
as well as the annual fund raising concert. Recently she was the Chairperson
for the Australasian Piano Pedagogy Conference held in Melbourne . She
has long been involved in charity work as a musician particularly in
the Jewish community.
Besides holding a Master of Music degree, Nehama has been the recipient
of many awards including an OAM (Order of Australia Medal for services
to music education and organizing concerts for charity), Churchill
Fellowship and the Avon Spirit Award for women for Excellence in Arts
(chosen by Diane Cliento). As well, the Jewish organization WIZO selected
Nehama as one of its Women Achievers of the Year. In 2001 Nehama was
featured in the Melbourne Museum exhibition "Ordinary Women, Extraordinary
Lives".
Nehama is included in the "Who's Who of Australian Women 2007".
